Support the Summer Youth Forestry Institute!
The Summer Youth Forestry Institute provides much more than a summer job to its participants: it is an experience that challenges them physically and mentally, engages them in tough discussions about environmental stewardship, and builds skills that give them a career edge. The SYFI was launched as a pilot project in 2007 with a one-year grant from King County through the Natural Resource Stewardship Network. This grant provided funding for student stipends, transportation, and staff support. We are currently seeking partners to help us deliver the SYFI in 2008 and beyond. Please consider becoming a partner in this valuable, one-of-a-kind program. Here are ways to help:
$9,000 would cover the salaries for ten students;
$3,000 would cover the cost of renting and fueling two vans for transporting the students to and around the field site;
$500 would buy 10 sets of work pants, hard hats, and gloves;
$8,500 would cover the cost of hiring an expert field instructor and co-program leader;
$250 would allow for program T-shirts for all participants;
$2,300 would cover all of the program costs for one student. Consider sponsoring one or more student participants this summer!
