  • New Food Policy Strategic Framework
    The AFPC
    has completed a strategic framework to guide regional food policy work. The framework is includes five focus areas including infrastructure, public health, local economic development, equitable food access, and food policy council development. Click here to download a copy.
  • Creation of a Regional Food Policy Council under review.
    Seattle City Council President Richard Conlin is exploring new options for creating a food policy council for the region. In the meantime, the Acting Food Policy Council continues its important work on regional food systems issues and is developing policy priorities for the next 2 years.
  • King County Agriculture Commission Public Meetings
    The King County Agriculture Commission wants to hear from you about the future of farming in our region. The next meeting is Thursday, February 12. Click here to learn more.

The Seattle-King County Acting Food Policy Council (AFPC) aims to ensure that all residents have access to nutritious, fresh food that is produced and distributed in a just manner; and that farming, food processing and distribution flourish as part of the local economy and contribute to a healthy environment.

Mission: Seattle-King County AFPC partners with community, business, agriculture and government to develop integrated policy and action for a food system that supports healthy people, communities, economies and the environment.


Acting Food Policy Council Goals for 2008

  • Develop and implement a strategy to engage local governments leading to formal recognition of a Food Policy Council.
  • Collaborate with existing and developing food system assessment efforts toward improving access to healthy foods, especially for low-income communities.
  • Establish organizational self-sufficiency by developing human resource and budgetary capacity.
