Sustainable Small Acreage Farming and Ranching

Learn practical information about whole farm planning, ecologically-based, diversified production systems, and alternative marketing techniques. The course includes classroom discussion, guest lectures by experienced farmers and agricultural professionals and field trips to local farm businesses. Course covers topics ranging from:
- Whole farm planning
- Soil biology & management
- Pest & weed management
- Cropping & Livestock systems
- Assessing resources & market opportunities
- Evaluating personal & family goals
- Accessing information & community resources
This is the first in a three-course series, “Cultivating Success.” Courses can be taken individually. Students taking this course and Agricultural Entrepreneurship (offered next Spring) will qualify for an On-Farm Apprenticeship. Course can be taken for Continuing Education Units (CEU) or WSU College Credit (WSU Course # Soils 404), and qualifies as part of the Sustainable Agriculture certificate program.
