March 13th-16th, 2008

Five youth ages 14-20 from Burien, Federal Way, White Center, and the Delridge nieghborhood in West Seattle represented the King County Collaborative at a national Food & Fitness meeting in Tucson, Arizona. The five, along with about 40 additional youth from the other 8 Food & Fitness communiities across the nation came together to talk and learn about the food and fitness environments and systems that exist in their communities. As a part of their learning, the youth were taken on a tour to explore aspects of the food system in Tucson, including visiting a soup kitchen, food bankd and an "edible garden". In addition to visiting the urban Tucson community, the youth were also invited to participate in programming at the Tohono O'odham Reservation. the communtiy visits were a favorite of the youth, along with activities such as the "5 Ms" in which the youth were taught about various aspects of marketing the Initiative when returning home. The youth are excited and have already started thinking about what they'd vision for their communities.
